Limited Edition version of the XBOX 360

Looks like Microsoft's planning to release another Limited Edition version of the XBOX 360 (refering to the previous Halo 3 one), this time with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 bundled with a console that looks quite nice. Plus, the $400 console (meaning it's the most expensive one in the line) contains two black wireless controllers (the same as the Elite ones), along with a nice 250GB hard drive on top. You can also get the hard drive with the Forza 3 set, but otherwise, you can't get the large amount of space from Microsoft.

college students get windows 7 for $30

That's right... college students in the US and UK will be able to purchase Windows 7 for only 30 dollars or 30 pounds. Plus, you don't even need to be a student there anymore, you just need a functional email address from the college/university! More here: www.win741.com

upgrade from windows-7 rc to windows 7 will be possible

Microsoft has yet to announce whether it is possible to upgrade from Windows 7 RC to the final retail version, a question that many have been awaiting an answer for. Dwight Silverman from TechBlog contacted a Microsoft spokesperson, who told him that this will be possible.

If you are running an activated version of Windows 7 RC, you will be able to install Windows 7 from an upgrade disk without installing an older version of Windows. However, you will not be able to do an upgrade installation. Only the custom installation option will be available, which would carry all files on your current Windows installation over to Windows 7 and store it in a folder called windows.old.

Microsoft has continually discouraged upgrade installations from an older Windows 7 build to a newer build. In the RC, the upgrade installation option was disabled if you were running the installation from an older Windows 7 build. However, making a simple edit to the cversion.ini file located on the Windows 7 installation disk would allow you to do so. Microsoft even posted this workaround for those who really wanted to upgrade to the RC from a previous build. The latest RTM candidate build issued to top partners, build 7264, still contains the cversion.ini file, although there is nothing inside. But the fact that the file still exists on the installation image may suggest that this workaround will continue to be possible in the final version of Windows 7.

Even though it will be possible to upgrade, Silverman claims that this could only be done once. If you’ve upgraded from the RC using the Windows 7 upgrade disk and decide to do a clean install of Windows 7 again, you’ll first need to install an older version of Windows.

This last bit of detail doesn’t seem logical at all, since the main purpose of the upgrade disk is to check for an activated version of Windows currently installed on the system before allowing the user to install Windows 7. I’ve contacted a Microsoft spokesperson for additional details and will update if additionals details are provided

Swedish Government orders the Piratebay to be taken offline

Today, TorrentFreak has reported that the Stockholm’s district court has taken action to completely remove The Pirate Bay from the Internet.

Authorities ordered the biggest bandwidth provider of TPB, Black Internet, to disconnect it or face penalties of 500,000 kroner ($70,600). Black Internet complied, stating that it had no choice.

“The censorship of The Pirate Bay will continue pending the outcome of a civil action taken by several entertainment companies including Disney, Universal, Warner, Columbia, Sony, NBC and Paramount.”

As Black Internet isn’t the only supplier to TPB, it is now back online. Some places are still waiting for a DNS update. Pirate Bay insiders told TorrentFreak they “got a new connection to the net.” It’s only a matter of time before authorities find out who the next host is. I wonder how much money has been spent trying to shut down The Pirate Bay? Probably enough to pay the content creators well over what they’ve lost.

Trackers are still down but are expected to be back up by tomorrow morning. The Pirate Bay’s downtime has cause traffic spikes on other torrent websites. TPB team also added this post in their blog.

“The MAFIAA has spent millions of dollars and endless amounts of time to get this ban in order. Our guess is that they also bribed a bit to get it since it violates so many laws not only in Sweden but also in the EU, not to mention violations against human rights. And what do they have to show for it? 3 hours of partial downtime,”
